FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Portland, Oregon - December 2025 - Bambu®, the Portland-based maker of sustainably designed housewares and bamboo disposables, has issued a public statement addressing the significant challenges posed by ongoing trade tensions and tariff instability that have disrupted global supply chains.
For over two decades, founders Rachel Speth and Jeff Delkin have worked directly with skilled craftspeople in China to create responsibly made products using FSC®-certified Moso bamboo. But in recent months, the company has faced extraordinary tariff increases and unpredictable trade conditions that have made continued production economically unfeasible.
“Our situation is unique,” said co-founder Jeff Delkin “The material and the craftsmanship that define our products are both rooted in China. The current tariffs have created barriers that make it nearly impossible for small, values-driven companies like ours to operate sustainably.”
The company has temporarily paused new production and is managing limited inventory levels through the end of the year. “We want to be transparent about the reality small businesses face in this climate,” added co-founder Rachel Speth. “We’re hopeful for change—toward trade policies that support ethical business practices rather than penalize them.”
Despite the challenges, Bambu® remains committed to its mission of design integrity, environmental stewardship, and fair relationships across its supply chain. The founders expressed deep gratitude to their loyal customers and partners who have continued to support the brand during this period of disruption.
